Have you heard about 'single-person household', which means a person who choose to stay single. The mose noticeable segment of society is 'Yuppies', who is between the ages of 25 and 35,live in cities and have good careers. They put their career ahead of family.
It's not a unique to Korea. Korean is just on the tail end of this trend. Japan,U.S.A, the number of this is closer to 30 percent. In sweden and some of the Nordic countries, the number is closer 50 percent.
This trend can be a benefit in lean economic times as they tend to have more flexible incomes and therefore spend more money on products. The growth of single households can greatly change the urban environment because they often come more restaurants,cafes and convenience stores. They can have an extremely positie effect on urban areas.
